Hello, and welcome to the Green Lane Users website, www.glu.org.uk, which is dedicated to helping prevent the closure of the green lanes around the Yorkshire Dales and also around the UK. Our Greenlanes are under threat. There are people who want to see all 4x4s banned from the countryside, as well as Horse riders, mountain bikes and Trail bikes. These lanes are for all users not just one type. Lets work together instead of infighting or abusing other user groups.SEE NEWS / UPDATESfor lastest info on the lanes.

I have been driving Green Lanes since 1990. I enjoy driving these lanes, taking care not to abuse or damage them, and helping out when possible to repair them. My kids, and friends, also enjoy being able to see the beauty and scenery that can't be seen by most, unless they are of the physically fit variety like the ramblers. or the likes of us 4x4'ers and not forgetting the bikes and horse riders. I feel that we need to stick together and fight to save our lanes from those that wish to take these rights from us.

A small minority in each user group are behaving recklessly and giving all the responsible users a bad reputation. First and foremost: Greenlanes are NOT a Play Site! (Though this should be obvious, unfortunately this still has to be said to some people.) They are there to be driven with care and consideration. We need to try and re-educate or get rid of the minority that go out pureley to tear up the lanes If you want to tear about, up to your doors in mud, getting stuck and making loads of noise, then join your nearest off-road club and go to their off-road play-days at specially designed sites. These are well worth the small charge because you also know you're allowed to drive there and get as muddy as you like! No need to check definitive maps or plan a day's worth of driving, either! Green-laning is meant to be pleasant and relaxing, not thrill-a-minute. Please read the Code of Conduct

Four wheeling provides the opportunity to get away from it all and builds family traditions. Remember-if you abuse it, you'll probably lose it! Careless operation of your off-road vehicle can cause damage and may result in closing of areas to four-wheel enthusiasts. Respect the environment and other trail users. By using common sense and common courtesy, what is available today will be here to enjoy tomorrow.

Paul.

The site is always under review, so please bear with me as I try to bring the news and info as fast as I can within the constraints of my work and my family life. Please feel to email me with news/info on laning issue's etc and all your contributions will be put on the site.

This translates to :-

Ramblers can use 100%.

Cyclists and Horse riders can use only 22%.

Motor vehicles can use just 5%.....

a lot of which is voluntarily restricted.

Yet people still say we should be banned from even the little that's left! If you don't want to meet a vehicle, don't walk on the 5% that's a bloomin' road!

Something to

THINK ABOUT!

24.01.03 One of the first lanes to have an ETRO.

Sulber Nick or

Long Lane - Nr Selside

Apparently a Mr Fenton of the Green Lane Alliance (anti) has his house not more than 200yards from this lane! Is this Coincidence or a case of "Not in my backyard?"
